A CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN ENGLISH AND INDONESIAN DECLARATIVE SENTENCE
Abstrak : The research entitled “A Contrastive Analysis of English and Indonesian Declarative Sentence” is aimed to find out the pattern of English and Indonesian declarative sentence and to find out the similarities and differences of English and Indonesian declarative sentences through comparing and analyzing the patterns of sentences and sentence categories by using contrastive analysis.
This research belongs to a descriptive qualitative research because this research does not use any statistical procedure. The object of this research is English and Indonesian declarative sentences. The data of this research is discourse containing declarative sentence. This research uses SBLC technique “teknik simak bebas libat cakap” to collect the data. Metode padan translasional are used to analyzed the data.
The research findings show that there are seven sentence patterns in English declarative sentence. Those are SV, SVA, SVC, SVO, SVOO, SVOA and SVOC. In Indonesian declarative sentence, there are S P, S P O, S P O1 O2, S P Pel, S P Ket, and S P O Ket. There are seven categories of clause which are transitive sentence, intransitive sentence, bitransitive sentence, nominal sentence, adjectival sentence, numeral sentence, and preposisional sentence. The similarities of English and Indonesian declarative sentence are: English and Indonesian declarative sentence have the same elements which are subject, predicate, double objects, complement, and adverbial. There are two objects in English and Indonesian declarative sentence. Both languages have transitive sentence, intransitive sentence, and bitransitive sentence. The differences of both declarative sentence are: Indonesian decarative has adjectival sentence, prepositional sentence, nominal sentence, and numeral sentence which is not found in Englsih declarative sentence. In English declarative sentence, the predicate is always in the form of a verb. The predicate in Indonesian declarative is not always a verb, but also it can be nominal, adjective, number, and also preposition. English declarative have a copula as the predicate.
