 Evil Of The Witch As Reflected In C. S. Lewis's The Chronicles Of Narnia: An Objective Study

Abstrak : This research entitles The Evil of The Witch as Reflected in C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe: An Objective Study is intended to: (1) to describe the intrinsic elements of the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, (2) to describe the evil of the witch as reflected in the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, and (3) to describe the moral values that can be taken from the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. The research employs the library research in the sense that the researcher visited the libraries to get the data. There are two kinds of data in this research: (1) primary data and (2) secondary data. The primary data are taken from the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and the secondary data are taken from books, articles, and other resources that are relevant or support the primary data. After the data are gathered, they are classified, analyzed, and interpreted by using several theories namely: (1) the theory of intrinsic elements by Kenney (1966), Subhan (2003), Abrams (1981), Nurgiantoro (2019), and Schwiebert (2005), (2) the theory of evil by A. Diamond (1996), Staub (2003), and Zimbardo (2004), and (3) the theory of moral value by Kenney (1996). Some of the important research findings are presented as follows. First, the intrinsic elements of the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe are (1) the theme is heroin, (2) the characters are such as Aslan, four children, witch, and others, (3) characterizations are such as brave, honest, evil, and others, (4) the settings are setting of place like Narnia and setting of time like summer, (5) the plot is regressive plot, and (6) the point of view is third person. Second, the evil of the witch of the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe are (1) collect the information about Aslan, (2) Find the Aslan, (3) Intimidate Aslan, (4) Kill Aslan, and (5) make a war with Aslan. Third, the moral values that can be taken from the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe are (1) positive values are honesty and integrity come happiness, forgiveness comes sincere, courage comes comfort and protect other, and self-sacrifice comes peacefulness and (2) negative values are evil comes discord and bad effects and perfidious comes misunderstood and revenge.
